Frequently Asked Questions

Please reach out carlswoodflooring@yahoo.com with any questions.

  • Dollar for dollar, no other material matches woods aesthetic versatility and practically
  • Depending on the style, species and finish, wood suits most architectural or decorative styles
  • Great insulator: One inch of hardwood has the same insulating value as 15 inches of concrete
  • Won’t hold on to allergens, like most carpets
  • Even though other materials may be cheaper or faster to install, wood retains a beauty, warmth and durability that’s hard to match

  • Carl’s Wood Flooring offers a complete line of hardwoods from the best hardwood floor distributors in Minnesota who are affiliated with the top mills in the world

The two most common types of finish are Oil Base and Water Base

  • Oil Base finish is probably the most popular residential finish. It’s cost effective and it’s durable and it leaves a deep, rich tone. Some of the disadvantages are that it has a very strong odor and a slow drying time. We usually recommend the homeowner find a place to stay for the night

  • Water Base finish is also becoming very popular. It’s more convenient because it has a much faster dry time. You can usually walk on your floor that same day. It also has less of an odor and will not amber in color over time. However, because of the manufacturing process and ingredients in the finish, you will pay a little more for it

Regular Maintenance

  • Always clean your wood floors periodically with a professional wood floor cleaning product. Not doing so may void any warranty or guarantee on your floors. Professional cleaner is available for purchase through Carl’s Wood Flooring

Preventive Maintenance

  • Do not use vinyl or tile floor care products on wood floors. Self polishing acrylic waxes cause wood to become slippery and appear dull quickly
  • Use rugs inside and outside doorways to help prevent grit, dirt and debris from being tracked onto wood floors. This will help prevent scratching
  • Do not wet-mop a wood floor. Standing water can dull the finish, damage the wood and leave a discoloring residue
  • Wipe up spills immediately with a slightly damp towel.
  • Never wax a urethane floor! Place felt pads under the legs of all furniture to prevent scratching and scuffing
  • Avoid walking on your wood floors with cleats, sports shoes and high heels
  • For wood flooring in the kitchen, place an area rug in front of the sink
  •  Use a humidifier throughout the winter months to keep wood movement and shrinkage to a minimum
  • Do not use rugs with rubber backing. They prevent the wood from breathing and will cause discoloration
